Care and food safety

A wooden board lasts for decades if it stays clean, dry and oiled.

Everyday care

  • Wash by hand with warm, soapy water, rinse, and wipe dry.
  • Dry it standing on edge so air reaches both sides.
  • Never put it in the dishwasher or leave it soaking. Standing water is what cracks and warps wood.
  • When the wood looks pale or dry, rub in food-grade mineral oil or board butter, leave it overnight, and wipe off the extra. About once a month is typical.
  • Keep epoxy boards away from hot pans and out of strong sun.

Cutting, serving and epoxy

Wood-only boards are made for cutting. End grain is the gentlest on your knives.

Epoxy boards are made for serving: cheese, bread, fruit, charcuterie. Knives scratch cured epoxy, so do your chopping on a wood-only board.

Our epoxy is [brand and product name], which its maker states complies with FDA 21 CFR 175.300 once fully cured. Every board cures for at least [number] days before it's sold.

The wood is finished with [finish brand and type].
